What Is This Chiropractic Stuff & Why Do I Need It?

What Is This Chiropractic Stuff?

We have a saying around here.  It goes, “If you have a spine, you need chiropractic.”  Ok, so maybe we don’t use that saying around here.  I may have just made it up.  But it is true.

How many of you have experienced back and/or neck pain?  Show of hands?  What did you do for the pain?  Did you ignore it?  Did you take some OTC pain medication?  While that may have helped temporarily relieve the pain, it didn’t treat the cause of the pain.  Your back and neck pain is often caused by subluxations (misalignments) of the vertebrae in your spine.  Correcting these subluxations with chiropractic adjustments can relieve your pain, and better yet, you are addressing the root cause of the pain.

Adjustments consist of a very safe, specific controlled force that is applied to the subluxated segments of the spine to restore proper function & mobility.  Each adjusting technique can be tailored to your comfort while still providing an effective spinal correction.

You may not realize chiropractic care can also address many of the other aches and pains you are experiencing.  Everything from headaches, sciatic pain, sinus issues, ankle, knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist pain, earaches – the list goes on and on.

Why Do I Need It?

“But nothing hurts,” you say.  “Do I really still need to continue chiropractic care?”  If you have been paying attention, you’ll recall we established earlier that if you have a spine, you do indeed need chiropractic care.  An adjustment isn’t just to relieve back and neck pain.  Only getting an adjustment when you are hurting isn’t necessarily the best plan.  Keeping the spine in proper alignment has so many other health benefits.

Things like sinus issues, sleep issues, digestive issues, blood pressure, organ function, bedwetting, colic, asthma, sexual dysfunction, vertigo, & stress can all be improved with chiropractic care. Check out a more complete list here.

Routine maintenance is an excellent idea when it comes to chiropractic care.   Once you are out of pain, the most important part of your care begins.  Where are my car people at?  Think of your body like the machine it is.  What happens if you never do any maintenance on your car?  If you never change the oil, never check the tire pressure, never get an alignment, never replace any other fluids, and never recalibrate the thingamabob that I’m sure cars have that needs to be recalibrated?  Things start to go wrong.  Don’t let your body get to the point where things start to go wrong.

Let’s break this down into an easy anatomy lesson:  Your spine protects your spinal cord.  Your spinal cord is like a telephone that connects your brain with the rest of your body & allows messages to flow back and forth.  Subluxations of the vertebrae in the spine can interrupt the important messages from your brain to the rest of your body & vice versa.

The “godfather” of chiropractic, D.D. Palmer, was the first to claim the root causes of many diseases were due to abnormalities or misalignments of the spine.  Smart guy that D.D. Palmer.  If that name rings a bell, it’s because it should.  The Palmer School of Chiropractic, the first school to provide training in the field of chiropractic, was founded by D.D. Palmer.

What Have We Learned?

So, what have we learned here today?  We have learned that it stands to reason if you have a spine, that spine can become subluxated.  Those subluxations can sometimes, but not always, cause pain, and will absolutely interrupt the normal functions of the body whether there’s pain or not.  Simply put, you need chiropractic care.
